Curriculum

Emanuele Naboni is Associate Professor in Sustainable Design and Climate Architecture at the Institute of Architectural Technology of the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen. He teaches sustainable design courses and studios. He worked with and consulted foremost architectural offices in Europe and US. He has received his PhD in Building Science from Politecnico di Milano (2006) developing his studies at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) – with a thesis focusing on high performances buildings with the supervision of Ezio Arlati and Vladimir Bazjanac. Previously, he had his Masters in Architecture (2002) (cum laude) at Politecnico di Milano with a specialization in sustainable design. It was of the contributors to Winds – a web based intelligent tutoring system for architects (2003) promoted by the European Community in the area of Building Technology. He is a specialist of sustainable design concept developments and environmental performance simulation, consulting software tools developers such as Autodesk. Emanuele was, from 2007 to the end of 2009, sustainable design specialist and analyst at the “Performance Design Studio” of SOM (Skidmore, Owings and Merrill LLP). He was a guest researcher at EETD (Environment and Energy Technology Department) at LBNL (2007 to 09 and in summer 2011). Since 2002, he has been working on environmental project design and environmental research. He was involved with with SOM in the master plans of Nanchang and Shenzhen, the commercial towers in Nanchang and Guangzhou in China and the San Bernardino Courthouse. He previously worked at a prefabricated building and a demonstrative green building at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry with Michelle Kaufman Design (2006). Before he worked at prototypes for ventilated facades developed with Aderma and Laminam (2003-05) He has recently won a F7 EU programme for sustainable design with the use of simulation on a cloud computing environment. Other areas of research are: green cities, Architectural vs. Mechanical means in high performance buildings, daylighting and indoor comfort. Emanuele works together with humanitarian agencies to develop ecological and affordable houses in Tanzania, Thailand and other third world countries. He has received prizes in international competitions of environmental design. His projects are published on magazines such as Domus and Arca. He currently writes about sustainability topics on architectural and specialized magazines and has just finalized the book “Green Building Pays. Design, Productivity and Ecology” for Routledge with Brian Edwards. The book will be distributed worldwide in late 2012.
