The aim of the Research Laboratory at the School of Conservation is to support education and research at all the school’s five departments.
Apart from supporting the school’s research in general the staff at the Research Laboratory carry out their own research within the following areas: Preventive conservation, colour measurement, museum lighting, accelerated ageing, micro fading, metal conservation, conservation of organic archaeological materials, analysis of pigments, binding media and painted surfaces, methods and materials for stone cleaning and enzyme based cleaning. Furthermore, especially the chemist takes part in a number of cross disciplinary research projects with the school’s other lecturers.
The staff at the Research Laboratory participate in several collaborative projects with Danish museums, for example the National Museum and the National Gallery. Furthermore, there is ongoing cooperation with a number of other institutions such as universities and research institutions both in Denmark and abroad.
