At Department of Object Conservation’s research and education cover conservation and restoration of cultural heritage objects, archaeological, historical as well as modern materials, organic as well as inorganic.
The departmental research and education relate to the common goal of theSchoolofConservation: preservation of our cultural and natural heritage.
The research and education comprise of many aspects of structure, constituents and manufacturing and last but least preservation and deterioration. Methods, techniques and materials for structural treatment of objects are included in the department´s research and education as well as methods, techniques and material for cleaning. A major aspect is preventive conservation. Research and education in the field have theoretical as well as practical and experimental aspects and are supported by related research areas at the other departments and the laboratory of theSchoolofConservation.
Research projects are undertaken in collaboration with colleagues from theSchoolofConservationand not least with colleagues from the museums and universities (from humanities and natural science) and networks, national and international. At the moment the department is involved in a EU FP7- research project (THALIS) and an interdisciplinary project in collaboration with theSchoolofArchitectureand theSchoolofDesign.
In the departmental research and education special equipment is used for chemical as well as physical analyses, analytical equipment from the department or at the other departments and laboratory of theSchoolofConservationto document the composition of the materials of the objects, the preservation and deterioration and possible concealed deterioration.
