Centre for Sports Architecture
Centre for Sports and Architecture aims to contribute actively to the development of new knowledge and the collection of existing expertise in the relationship between body culture and sports on the one hand and building, housing and planning strategies for this part of society on the other hand.
The centre shall contribute to improving the education of architects, designers, engineers and planners as well as communicate the knowledge widely to public and private institutions. The centre has come into existence as a result of cooperation between The Danish Foundation for Culture and Sports Facilities and The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture.

The period 2004 - 2006
In the period of 2004 the Centre for Sports Architecture worked with subjects within sports architecture, building technology and urban planning, which will become important for future facilities on all levels. The Centre has acquired specialised knowledge that is regarded relevant and competent both in Denmark and abroad, with both Danish and foreign municipalities, architects and universities requesting the Centre's knowledge and desiring to make use of it.

Plan period 2007 - 2013
The new strategic focus areas the centre will, during the period 2007-2013, concentrate on accumulating knowledge about the physical frameworks relevant to the activation of inactive groups - the overweight, children, the elderly, immigrants and the socially disadvantaged.
There is a particular focus on sport- and culture space, the community facility, schools, hospitals, urban space, and to increase awareness of accessibility in relation to the present urban planning in Denmark. The implement is to enhance skills in the advising role as well as developing new concepts and ideas at the strategic level.
The announcement of a position as lecturer in the theories and methods of sports architecture is a main priority for the Institute, so that the centre's knowledge is implemented and developed continuously by young educators. In addition, we are working on establishing a guest professorship with the recruitment of a foreign teacher / researcher. The centre will continue to employ a range of internal and external researchers with special attention in the field. Finally, the establishment of a professorship in the field, as well as recruiting a PhD student who will specialize in the environments importance for promoting physical activity and sport and city planning, is also part of the plan.
