About the Danish Centre for Design Research

The Danish Centre for Design Research is an umbrella organisation under the Danish Ministry of Culture for the design research that takes place at the Aarhus School of Architecture, The Danish Design School, Designskolen Kolding, and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture.

The Danish Centre for Design Research helps establish and promote Danish design research, disseminate knowledge, and build Danish and international networks among research institutions, enterprises and the general public.

Business link

The Danish Centre for Design Research should engage in active collaboration with private enterprises. The goal is partly to make the results of design research available to Danish companies, partly to work with specific companies on creating new, directly applicable knowledge. Thus, the DCDR aims to strengthen the exchange of knowledge about design research and facilitate the identification of potential areas of collaboration for researchers, schools and enterprises, on a national as well as an international level.

Activities

The Danish Centre for Design Research is charged with:

  • gathering and disseminating knowledge about design research in the participating educational institutions
  • coordinating ongoing research and facilitating the initiation of new research projects at the individual schools as well as in partnerships involving several schools as well as private enterprises
  • supporting research environments that engage in active research activities that enable participating researchers to qualify for positions as assistant and associate professors in the university system
  • establishing collaboration with other research institutions in Denmark as well as abroad, and forming networks and consortiums within the area of design research
  • hosting seminars, conferences, symposiums etc.
  • striving to increase external funding for the centre's activities
  • acting in an advisory capacity for research students
